Enrique Peña Nieto: The PRI's Horse in the Next Race

The latest darling of Mexico's political scene is the handsome Enrique Peña Nieto. For many people in the country, he is the best bet for the coming elections. The others participating in the polls are thus more than a little concerned about his presence.

Despite the period for campaigning not yet officially starting, Nieto's fame among the voters has been steadily rising. Nieto is famous for his mastery of the theatrical side of the political sphere. His charisma is such that people are naturally drawn to him, and not only for his looks.

Some people say that the man's rise to fame was all due to a contract with the biggest TV network in the country. The allegation is that money changed hands with the result that the TV network agreed to do Nieto's campaign advertising for him. Critics and opponents claim that the alleged deal is the reason for Televisa's support of the man.

These speculations came about after Pena Nieto announced on national television his romantic relationship with Angelica Rivera. The actress is known for her prolific career in Mexican soaps and is inarguably among the most recognizable faces on Mexican TV. He was married to Rivera three years after the death of his first wife, Monica Pretelini.

Pretelini was able to give Nieto three children prior to her passing. It was while Nieto was functioning as a governor for the state of Mexico that his first wife died. The result of Pretelini's passing was a renewed interest in the handsome Nieto as people wondered who would be his next wife.

Nieto's fame with the females is merely a small contributor to his growing reputation. The man's popularity is also partly attributable to his work in finding out what voters require and his efforts in filling those requirements. He is known for having prioritized public works and related projects.

Nieto actually used the completion of various promised projects as campaign events. It is no surprise that Nieto is perceived as someone who can deliver when it comes to promises. Detractors do say, though, that the lavish inaugurations for his public works were even more expensive than the actual public works.

His critics managed to get other fodder for their remarks about him when he made a few gaffes at the Guadalajara Book Fair. It was found then that Nieto could not remember quite a number of important things about the texts he liked best. Nieto was noted to have said that he usually forgot these details, being more interested in the tome's contents.

His detractors basically had a field day when this happened. When one of his daughters was asked about it, she delivered a rather emotional response that may not have been wise. Nieto made a handsome admission and apology on behalf of his daughter, but the ridicule remained.

It is a shame, Enrique Peña Nieto claims, that so much of his speech ends up being taken apart and decontextualized. That having been said, Nieto's bid for the presidential seat is still strong. It is said that he is most likely to win due to the voters' liking for him.
